Buckshaw ROF Scout Group gives young people, both boys and girls, aged 6 to 14 the chance to make friends, try new things and grow in confidence — every week, right here in Buckshaw Village and Euxton.

Three sections, one adventure
From first campfires to leading a team, there's a place for every young person — and every volunteer — at Buckshaw ROF Scouts. We don't currently have a Squirrels section, but we'd love to open one if we have the volunteers to run it.
6–8 years
What's the best thing about Beaver Scouts?
Activities, trips and making friends are all part of what makes it so much fun for girls and boys. As well as earning activity badges, many Beaver Scouts get to go on camps and sleepovers, often for the first time. Beaver Scouts like:
- Being creative — making things and singing
- Playing games
- Going on visits and investigating nature
- Learning about themselves
- Getting to know other people
- Discovering the worlds of science, nature and technology
- Exploring the natural and manmade world
- Caring — responding to the needs of others, the local and international community
At Buckshaw ROF Scout Group, Beavers meet on Monday evenings.
8–10½ years
New adventures, new friends
Cub Scouts enjoy new adventures while making new friends along the way. Their commitment is recognised by over thirty activity badges. As well as regular weekly meetings, Cub Scouts also enjoy activity days, weekend camps and pack holidays. Boys and girls:
- Go camping
- Play games
- Explore the outdoors
- Try adventurous activities — such as climbing, sailing and archery
- Meet people from their local community
- Experience the culture of other countries
- Keep themselves and others safe
At Buckshaw ROF Scout Group, Cubs meet on Wednesday evenings.
10½–14 years
Ready for the adventure of life
At this age, we encourage girls and boys to take responsibility for themselves and each other, with older members leading a small team. They like being with friends and participating fully in the adventure of life. In the Troop, Scouts:
- Develop leadership skills
- Learn emergency aid
- Spend nights away all year round — the summer camps are often the highlight of the year, along with hundreds of other Scouts at "County Rally"!
- Help others in the community
- Cook, both at home and at camp
- Take part in adventurous and sporting activities — anything from abseiling to zorbing
- Learn survival skills
At Buckshaw ROF Scout Group, we have two Scout sections that meet on Tuesday or Thursday evenings.
Things You Need to Know
Scouting is led by volunteers, all of whom receive training and are DBS checked. However, we always need more volunteers to support the children. Most sections have a waiting list. Priority is given to children of volunteers, then by order of sign-up, and by matching a child's exact age to the available vacancy — this helps ensure they can move up to the next section as soon as they reach the right age. Many of our sections operate a parent rota to ensure we have suitable ratios, and all parents are expected to participate.
In terms of cost, there's a monthly fee (£16.50 as of 2026, and subject to annual review at our AGM, to which all parents are invited). You'll need to buy a uniform, and while some trips, camps and special events are optional, they come at an extra cost.

There are lots of ways you can get involved as a parent, from helping out occasionally on a parent rota to volunteering your time as a leader. Our volunteering opportunities are as varied as you! Because whether you're helping a leader run an activity at our meeting place, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread for a group of very hungry eleven-year-olds — no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great.

There are many ways you can support us — donations of goods, or cash towards equipment, building improvements or repairs. We also love receiving donations of time, such as professionals who can help us with things like electrical certifications, building work or admin.
